ASC Athlete Profile: Tina Georgia

Name: Christina Georgia

Nickname: Tina

Birthday: December 31

Hometown: Stephens City, VA

What is your athletic background? Did you play any sports growing up?

“I ran cross-country and track in middle and high school. I grew a love for group fitness in college. “

When did you attend your first workout with Arlington Sports Conditioning, and how did you first learn about the group?

“My first year was either 2015 or 2016. My sister-in-law invited me to one of the Saturday morning track workouts. We then started attending workouts regularly both Saturday at the track, and Monday nights at Gold’s Gym in Ballston.”

What is your proudest athletic accomplishment, and why?

“I’m torn between my most recent accomplishment of running my first marathon in just under four hours, and hiking the Half Dome in Yosemite with the cables down.

I’m very proud of the training I put in to achieve my goal of running a sub-four-hour marathon. I went into the marathon with the main goal of simply finishing, but in the back of my mind I was aiming for that sub-four-hour time. The consistency of my training had me feeling excited and ready to crush my goal come race day (and I did just that!).

Hiking the Half Dome is a feat in itself: the hike is about 17 miles round trip with over 5,300’ of elevation gain (that’s hiking literally a mile upward into the air). You climb the final 400’ by pulling yourself up cables that are fixed into the Half Dome. However, the cables are only up for use from May – October. If you choose to hike outside of that window, you can do so by wearing a climbing harness and attaching yourself to the lowered cables using Prusik knots. This allows you to climb up without risk of falling. However, it makes the climb 100x harder, thus probably my most challenging and rewarding athletic accomplishment 😊 If you’re interested, you can read more about climbing the Half Dome with the Cables down Here from a blogger who documented his experience.”

What is your favorite exercise(s)?

“Running and any exercise utilizing a kettlebell.“

What is your favorite workout song or musical artist?

Eminem – Till I Collapse

What is your favorite sports team?

“JMU Football is so in right now! Go Dukes!”

Who is your favorite athlete?

“Probably Kobe Bryant. His work ethic was (still is) very inspirational. “

Other than working out, how else do you like to spend your free time?

“Spending time with friends and family; hiking; planning and going on fun trips. “

What do you like best about Arlington Sports Conditioning?

“I love the sense of community and how hard we all push and cheer each other on during the workouts. “

What are the biggest benefits that you have experienced as a member?

“I’ve gained noticeable speed on my runs as a result of consistently attending the ASC Fast workouts. “

What advice would you offer to new or prospective members of Arlington Sports Conditioning?

“You’ll be surprised at how hard you work during the classes because of how much fun you’re having along the way. Enjoy it!”
