Arlington Sports Conditioning - Pete Leibman

Faster. Stronger. Fitter.

ASC Athlete Profile: Steve Proctor

Name: Steve Proctor

Birthday: December 13

Hometown: Killeen, TX“This answer is tricky as both my parents were in the Army, so we moved around numerous times. I was lucky to attend just one high school (in Killeen).”

What is your athletic background? Did you play any sports growing up?

“I played little league sports, like football, baseball, basketball, and wrestling. I also once answered a newspaper ad for running and unsuspectedly ended up on the cross-country team. The coach who placed the ad was attempting to start a program at the local community college and was accepting pretty much anyone. I was the slowest male runner in the entire division, but the coach treated me the same as he treated his fastest runner. The team disbanded after its first season, but I later learned that this coach went on to win multiple state championships at the high school level, thereafter.”

When did you attend your first workout with Arlington Sports Conditioning, and how did you first learn about the group?

“I came to my first workout in March of 2021, but didn’t return until I was invited by my friend (ASC member Jess Gonzalez) in June of 2023. I really enjoyed the workout and the camaraderie and became a member shortly thereafter. My social media algorithm is probably how I first learned about ASC.”

What is your proudest athletic accomplishment, and why?

“I am most proud of completing a marathon. There was a time when I saw the marathon as something that only others were capable of doing, but some friends encouraged me to take the leap. Thus, began my love for running (not necessarily the marathon). From the marathon experience, I learned that most things can be accomplished when you focus, train, and become determined to reach a goal.”

What is your favorite exercise(s)?

“Running, sit-ups, and box jumps. Definitely not burpees!”

What is your favorite workout song or musical artist?

“I enjoy various genres, but rock music is my favorite. My workout mood is elevated by the likes of Def Leppard, Metallica, Rage Against the Machine, and Motley Crüe, among others. There are also a few movie scores and soundtracks, like Rocky/Rocky IV and Top Gun that inspire me.”

What is your favorite sports team?

“I attended Texas A&M, so I follow Aggie football and baseball. I have also been a Baltimore Orioles fan ever since my family was stationed here back in the 80’s.”

Who is your favorite athlete?

“Tim Duncan, David Robinson, and Ryan Hall (runner)”

Other than working out, how else do you like to spend your free time?

“I enjoy taking trips, spending time in nature, hiking, learning photography, and eating. I continue to relish a solo road trip I took to Maine in October 2020, where I was able to combine many of these interests.”

What do you like best about Arlington Sports Conditioning?

“The workouts, the friendships, Pete’s attention to form, the field trips, the social gatherings.”

What are the biggest benefits of being a member?

“Being a part of a community of like-minded people who enjoy health and fitness in its many forms. Groups like ASC have become my social circle in this stage of life, and I plan for that to continue.”

What advice would you offer to new or prospective members of Arlington Sports Conditioning?

“It is worth stepping out of your comfort zone to try something new. If that is something like trying ASC, then go for it! Over time, workouts (like ASC) shape your mentality to withstand and be confident, ready, and willing to take on whatever comes your way, whether it be a tough workout or something else in life.”
