Arlington Sports Conditioning - Pete Leibman

Faster. Stronger. Fitter.

ASC Athlete Profile: Sophia Rivas

Name: Sophia Rivas
Birthday: June 1
Hometown: Arlington, VA

What is your athletic background? Did you play any sports growing up?
I didn’t really grow up playing sports seriously. I tried just about everything but was never very good at any of them. In high school, I finally found something I enjoyed and could stick with when I joined the rowing team my freshman year.

When did you attend your first workout with Arlington Sports Conditioning, and how did you first learn about the group?
I attended my first ASC workout in the summer of 2024 during a collab ASC did with the Ballston Runaways, a run club I try to join on Wednesday mornings when I can.

What is your proudest athletic accomplishment, and why?
Running my first-ever half marathon on March 15, 2025. I only started running in January 2024 as a fun way to challenge myself. I never expected that journey to take me from barely being able to run a mile to running over 13. I’m especially proud of sticking with most of the training despite balancing grad school and work.

What is your favorite exercise(s)?
Anything yoga-related.

What is your favorite workout song or musical artist?
I listen to most genres, but pop is usually my go-to when I run.

What is your favorite sports team?
I enjoy watching soccer the most…especially during the World Cup or Copa América.

Who is your favorite athlete?
Julián Alvarez.

Other than working out, how else do you like to spend your free time?
I love spending time with family and friends, going to Bible study, going on walks, and making Starbucks runs :). Outside of ASC, I work as a school nurse during the week and a Mother-Baby nurse every other weekend.

What do you like best about Arlington Sports Conditioning?
The community! Everyone is so encouraging and welcoming.

What are the biggest benefits of being a member?
I try workouts I never would’ve done on my own, and Pete always helps with form and technique. I leave every session feeling accomplished and a little more like an athlete each time!

What advice would you offer to new or prospective members of Arlington Sports Conditioning?
Don’t be nervous! I was at first, especially since I had never really lifted weights or done strength training before (aside from using light weights in a few barre classes). But the group is so supportive, and it helps to remember that everyone was new once.
