Name: Molly Preston
Birthday (day and month only): December 23
Hometown: Bath, North Carolina
What is your athletic background? Did you play any sports growing up?
“My first sport was softball. I continued playing through high school – pitcher, catcher, second base, and center field. I dabbled in volleyball and basketball in junior high. In high school I started running cross country, serving as team captain my senior year and running in the state championships all four years. Coach also recruited me to run the two-mile for the track team. I also danced on the high school competitive dance team and was co-captain my senior year. In college I played co-ed club water polo. I also grew up riding horses since I could sit on a saddle and still ride whenever I am visiting my parent’s farm.”
When did you attend your first workout with Arlington Sports Conditioning, and how did you first learn about the group?
“Josiah, my husband, invited me to go to ASC when we were dating back in 2017. I would attend occasionally, but since I lived in DC I didn’t start going regularly until I moved to Arlington in 2018.”
What is your proudest athletic accomplishment, and why?
“Participating in the Ragnar Washington DC Relay race! It was the most intense athletic experience I have ever had. The course covered 200 miles starting in Cumberland, MD and ending at Navy Yard in DC. I was one of 11 runners and ran three separate legs– one of which started at 2am in the pitch black. Running through Maryland with a headlight on the side of a country road was crazy. Our team finished in the top three overall!”
What is your favorite exercise(s)?
“Running: probably the 200m, 400m, or a nice easy 4 miles.”
What is your favorite workout song or musical artist?
“Eminem, Missy Elliott, or Blink 182”
What is your favorite sports team?
“I don’t really follow any sports teams, but LOVE watching the Olympics, mainly gymnastics, track, and swimming.”
Who is your favorite athlete?
“Sunisa Lee, U.S. Women’s Gymnastics Team”
Other than working out, how else do you like to spend your free time?
“Hanging out with Juniper, our 3 year old pittie mix; Reading; Yoga (that might count as working out?)”
What do you like best about Arlington Sports Conditioning? What are the biggest benefits that you have experienced as a member?
“Pete pushes me to do the exercises that I avoid but I know that I need! It is a great way to get an overall body workout. I have seen my upper body strength improve and all the stabilizing leg muscles that get neglected as a runner.”
What advice would you offer to new or prospective members of Arlington Sports Conditioning?
“The workout can be as easy or as hard as you want depending on what your body needs that particular day, but the key factor is making it a part of your weekly routine. And lean into meeting new people – there is always someone in the ASC crew that is up for some kind of active adventure!”
