ASC Athlete Profile: Jennifer Pearl

Name: Jennifer Pearl

Nickname: Jenn

Hometown: Livingston, NJ

What is your athletic background? Did you play any sports growing up?

Not a one. I did swim laps for exercise in the summers as a kid and more recently as an adult, but not very far and not very fast.

When did you attend your first workout with Arlington Sports Conditioning, and how did you first learn about the group?

My first workout was in May of 2024. I saw the group working out in the mornings, because I live near Lubber Run and walk our dog every morning past the park.

What is your proudest athletic accomplishment, and why?

When I was in my late twenties, I was trying to improve my French and wanted to go to France for a summer trip. But it sounded too boring to take a language class, so I signed up for what I thought was a hiking trip. It was actually a canyoning trip, and we did some really scary stuff.

I rappelled down 50 meter waterfalls and did some hiking in the mountains where we were attached by harnesses but had to jump over a break in the rock with a very far drop below. I was pretty sure at some points they would have to helicopter me out of there, but I made it through the whole week. I was also the only American and the only non-native French speaker, so I was very proud when I completed it. I learned the words for “sprained ankle” and “black and blue mark” and well as all of the sizes of rock (pebble, boulder, etc.)

More recently, at ASC, I am proud that when I started I used 10 pounds weights, but now a year later I can use 20 or 25 pound weights.

What is your favorite exercise(s)?

Cool down. Always.

What is your favorite workout song or musical artist?

Pitbull

What is your favorite sports team?

Washington Capitals. My husband is Canadian so we watch a lot of hockey.

Who is your favorite athlete?

Simone Biles

Other than working out, how else do you like to spend your free time?

Spending time with my husband, two boys, and our dog. I also like the theatre and seeing plays.

What do you like best about Arlington Sports Conditioning?

The community vibe.

What are the biggest benefits of being a member?

Instant new friends. Plus, it is motivating to go to the workouts if you know you will see nice people there.

What advice would you offer to new or prospective members of Arlington Sports Conditioning?

Try it! If I can do it, you can do it.
