Name: Heather Ingram
Nickname: Heathah (basically my name with a New York accent – for some reason it used to really crack my teammates up)
Birthday: August 22
Hometown: Arlington, VA
What is your athletic background? Did you play any sports growing up?
I played competitive ultimate frisbee in college and club until about 2009 In 2014 I got my Yoga Teacher certification – and taught mostly hatha/vinyasa until 2022.
When did you attend your first workout with Arlington Sports Conditioning, and how did you first learn about the group?
I saw you all working out while doing laps on the indoor track at Lubber Run. I knew Will Bennett [another ASC member], and he hyped you up! I joined in spring 2024.
What is your proudest athletic accomplishment, and why?
I’m not sure. Looking back on playing ultimate, it was all such a gift. I was fortunate to be on teams that made it to nationals a few times and even break seed. As a yoga teacher someone once told me that my 6AM class helped her avoid breaking her hip – which was very cool.
What is your favorite exercise(s)?
I love friendly competition/relays and anything with hand eye coordination.
What is your favorite workout song or musical artist?
Dua Lipa, Imagine Dragons and anything from the “Now That’s what I call Music” in the single digits.
Who is your favorite athlete?
Shane Battier, ever since reading Michael Lewis’s NY Time article Non Stats All Star. There is something about playing smart, doing subtle things to mitigate your opponents strengths, setting your teammates up for success, and the satisfying grind of practice — that makes my heart sing.
Other than working out, how else do you like to spend your free time?
Traveling, Playing with my dog, Cooking, Reading, Writing. Netflix. Wine.
What do you like best about Arlington Sports Conditioning?
That’s a tie between the community of folks and how Pete keeps it interesting. I’m often a skeptic about all the “fun stuff” but happily Pete keeps proving me wrong.
What are the biggest benefits of being a member?
It’s fun – which means I’ll do it – which means I’m actually getting healthier!
What advice would you offer to new or prospective members of Arlington Sports Conditioning?
Keep showing up.
