ASC Athlete Profile: Chelsea Matzen

Name: Chelsea Matzen

Birthday: January 18

Hometown: Cleveland, OH

What is your athletic background? Did you play any sports growing up?

“I grew up always being active. My parents signed me up for and coached baseball and soccer little league teams. I dabbled in cross country, volleyball and swimming at different points in school, but my main sports were always soccer and track. I loved the hurdles. Now as an adult I’ve been on a softball team for the past 9 years. “

When did you attend your first workout with Arlington Sports Conditioning, and how did you first learn about the group?

“My first ASC workout was back in 2015. I’d just started dating this guy (who I ended up marrying😊) who couldn’t stop talking about how fun his workout group was and how they worked out on the track at WL. The moment I heard track workout and sprints, I knew I had to go and live out my high school glory days again.“

What is your proudest athletic accomplishment, and why?

“Making it to regionals in the 100m hurdle my senior year. I had been working and training for so long it felt good to finally be among the top runners to progress past districts. It was also when I finally started being able to 3 step the hurdles instead of 4 step.”

What is your favorite exercise(s)?

“Power skips, running, and medicine ball twists”

What is your favorite workout song or musical artist?

“Bang Bang by Jessie J”

What is your favorite sports team?

“Cleveland Guardians, but trying to get into watching the Washington Spirit “

Who is your favorite athlete?

“Francisco Lindor”

Other than working out, how else do you like to spend your free time?

“I love bird watching, reading, and cooking with Matt.“

What do you like best about Arlington Sports Conditioning? What are the biggest benefits that you have experienced as a member?

“Besides a great workout, the best part of ASC has been the people. Coming to ASC has helped Arlington feel like a home and a community rather than just a place I live. The class is full of fun, welcoming people of all ages and which helps connect the people who come to the community.”

What advice would you offer to new or prospective members of Arlington Sports Conditioning?

“Always be ready with your workout request during intros.“
